تقع قرية زايد التراثية في المنطقة الجبلية في غليلة، شمال إمارة رأس الخيمة، وهي أكثر من مجرد متحف تقليدي؛ إنها مساحة ثقافية حيّة تحفظ ذاكرة المجتمع الإماراتي، وتتيح للزوار إطلالة على حياة الأجيال السابقة وتقاليدها وتراثها.
بدأت فكرة إنشاء القرية عام 2004، واكتمل تشييدها عام 2005. وقد أسسها المواطن الإماراتي سعيد علي لَحَه الشحي، الذي كرّس جهوده الشخصية لجمع وحفظ المقتنيات التي تعكس الحياة التقليدية في دولة الإمارات. وحملت القرية اسم الشيخ زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان، مؤسس دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، تقديرًا لدوره التاريخي في بناء الدولة والحفاظ على قيمها وهويتها.
تضم القرية مجموعة مميزة من المقتنيات التراثية والتحف التقليدية والوثائق التاريخية والصور والمخطوطات والكتب والأسلحة والأدوات المنزلية وغيرها من القطع المرتبطة بالحياة الإماراتية في الماضي.
ومن أبرز أقسامها قاعة الشيخ محمد بن زايد آل نهيان للأسلحة التراثية، التي تعرض السيوف والبنادق وغيرها من الأسلحة التقليدية التي تعكس تاريخ المنطقة وثقافتها.
كما تضم قاعة الشيخ سعود بن صقر القاسمي للفضيات والتحف، التي تحتوي على مقتنيات فضية تقليدية وقطع أثرية وتاريخية تقدم صورة عن الحياة المادية للأجيال السابقة.
ومن أبرز معالم القرية أيضًا مكتبة الشيخ صقر بن محمد القاسمي، التي تضم آلاف الكتب والمخطوطات في مجالات متنوعة، منها تاريخ دولة الإمارات وشبه الجزيرة العربية، والدراسات الإسلامية، والأدب، والجغرافيا، والطب، والسياسة، والأنساب، والاقتصاد، والتاريخ الاجتماعي. كما تضم المجموعة صورًا تاريخية وخرائط ووثائق متنوعة.
وتعيد القرية كذلك تجسيد عدد من أشكال العمارة وأنماط السكن التقليدي، ومنها البيت الجبلي التقليدي، وبيت العريش المصنوع من سعف النخيل، والخيام، والسبلة بوصفها مكانًا تقليديًا للتجمع، إضافة إلى أماكن التخزين وغيرها من المنشآت. وتمنح هذه المباني الزائر تصورًا بصريًا عن الطريقة التي عاش بها الناس وعملوا واجتمعوا وتفاعلوا في الماضي.
وما يجعل قرية زايد التراثية ذات أهمية خاصة هو أن رسالتها تتجاوز مجرد عرض المقتنيات القديمة؛ فهي تسعى إلى تقديم صورة متكاملة عن الحياة الإماراتية التقليدية. فالكتاب، والصورة، والسلاح، والأداة المنزلية، والوثيقة القديمة، كلها تتحول إلى جزء من قصة أكبر عن مجتمع حافظ على هويته وتراثه في الوقت الذي كان ينتقل فيه نحو الحداثة.
وتُعد القرية نموذجًا للدور المهم الذي يمكن أن تؤديه المبادرات الثقافية الفردية في حماية التراث الوطني. فمن خلال مقتنياتها ومبانيها التقليدية، تربط القرية الأجيال الجديدة بحياة أجدادهم، وتساعد الزوار من مختلف أنحاء العالم على اكتشاف الثراء الثقافي والتراثي لدولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة.
واليوم، تمثل قرية زايد التراثية جسرًا بين الماضي والحاضر؛ فهي مكان لا تُقرأ فيه التاريخُ في الكتب فحسب، بل يُعاش من خلال المقتنيات والعمارة والحكايات والذكريات.

Zayed Heritage Village: A Living Memory of the UAE in Ras Al Khaimah

Nestled in the mountainous area of Ghalila in northern Ras Al Khaimah, Zayed Heritage Village is more than a traditional museum. It is a living cultural space that preserves the memory of Emirati society and offers visitors a glimpse into the life, traditions, and heritage of previous generations.
The idea of establishing the village began in 2004, and its construction was completed in 2005. The village was founded by the Emirati citizen Saeed Ali Laha Al Shehhi, who dedicated his personal efforts to collecting and preserving objects that reflect the traditional life of the United Arab Emirates. The village was named after the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE, in recognition of his historic role in building the nation and preserving its values and identity.
The village houses a remarkable collection of traditional artifacts, historical documents, photographs, manuscripts, books, weapons, household objects, and other items associated with Emirati life in the past.
Among its notable sections is the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Hall for Traditional Weapons, which displays traditional swords, rifles, and other weapons that reflect the history and culture of the region.
Another important section is the Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Hall for Silverware and Antiques, which contains traditional silver objects and historical artifacts that provide insight into the material culture of earlier generations.
One of the most remarkable features of the village is the Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi Library, which contains thousands of books and manuscripts covering a wide range of subjects, including the history of the UAE and the Arabian Peninsula, Islamic studies, literature, geography, medicine, politics, genealogy, economics, and social history. The collection also includes historical photographs, maps, and documents.
The village also recreates several traditional forms of architecture and accommodation, including the traditional mountain house, the Arish house made from palm leaves, tents, the Sabla (traditional gathering place), storage areas, and other structures. These buildings provide visitors with a visual understanding of how people lived, worked, gathered, and interacted in the past.
What makes Zayed Heritage Village particularly meaningful is that its mission goes beyond displaying old objects. It seeks to present a complete picture of traditional Emirati life. A book, a photograph, a weapon, a household object, or an old document becomes part of a larger story about a society that preserved its identity while moving toward modernity.
The village stands as an example of the important role that individual cultural initiatives can play in protecting national heritage. Through its collections and traditional buildings, it connects younger generations with the lives of their ancestors and helps visitors from around the world discover the rich cultural heritage of the UAE.
Today, Zayed Heritage Village represents a bridge between past and present—a place where history is not simply read in books, but experienced through objects, architecture, stories, and memories.
